Last week, Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan took to social media to let fans know that a ton of new music from the band will coming over the next year. While the band are gearing up to release CYR, their eleventh studio album on November 27th, Corgan let fans know that much more would be coming in the future. Namely, a sequel to the band’s highly revered 1995 double-LP Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.

The untitled album will be released to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Mellon Collie, and will serve as a sequel to both the original 1995 album and their fifth album, 2000’s Machina. It is being reported that the album is going to have around 33 songs, and will be an ambitious “rock opera/concept album”. Not much else is known at this time, but knowing Smashing Pumpkins, it will be ambitious and exciting.

Additionally, Corgan divulged that the band will be embarking on an arena tour to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. While Corgan states that they won’t be playing the album from front to back, it will celebrate the timeframe and pay homage to the period of time in which the band were writing and touring off of the album.
