If Ozzy Osbourne is the Prince of Darkness, Marilyn Manson could potentially be the king. His stage show is wild. His albums are brutally straightforward and honest, whether they're on the heavier side of the spectrum or the more industrial side. You remember his name after all these years.
Today, Marilyn Manson will be taking the stage to perform at Concord Pavilion in Concord, CA with Slipknot and opening act of Of Mice & Men. I want to say that I can tell you exactly what you're going to witness tomorrow if you're attending the show, but that's the crazy thing: Manson's shows have always been unpredictable, much like his music. While his tracks have leaned more towards the industrial world in recent years, his most recent album, dubbed The Pale Emperor, showed a songwriting territory I'd never heard him partake in.
In the past, Manson's shows have featured costume changes, props, and larger than life renditions of his most popular tracks. Much like his music, his stage shows generated a great deal of controversy, igniting rage and fear among the middle class suburban family crowds and the religious right. People even went as far as to make up what they were seeing, exaggerating it FAR from the actual truth (for further reading, I would HIGHLY recommend taking the time to check out The Long Hard Road Out Of Hell, Manson's autobiography. There are very specific examples of what certain groups did to try and stop people from attending his shows. Clearly, we see how that worked out...)
I wish I could tell you, if you are attending his Concord show tomorrow, exactly what to expect from Marilyn Manson's set, but that's the thing: I can't. I don't know what's going to happen, and I've purposely kept myself from looking at too many photos or videos from this tour. Marilyn Manson's shows are always a surprise, they're chaotic and out there, and that's what makes him still one of the most revered and controversial artists in rock music today. Make sure you show up early so you can find a spot on the floor or on the grass to witness the spectacle that is the renowned Antichrist Superstar.
