Gone Is Gone
Gone Is Gone
Release Date: July 8, 2016
Label: Black Dune Records
Okay, I want you to stay with me for a second. Imagine a band that was made up of the following people: guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen (Queens of the Stone Age), drummer Tony Hajjar (At The Drive-In), guitarist/keyboardist Mike Zarin, and bassist/vocalist Troy Sanders (Mastodon). Now imagine that all of the music was more on the experimental and cinematic side of the spectrum. Are you imagining it? Well, guess what? It's REAL. Those four band members have gone off and formed a rock supergroup that is know as Gone Is Gone. The band have just released their first studio record, a self-titled EP, and it's quite a trip. There isn't a ton of consistency throughout the record, but considering that some of the influences are coming from bands that have featured more experimental elements (Mastodon, At The Drive-In), this isn't exactly a problem. There are unexpected moments, yes, but the overall tone has a consistency about it. The EP is still full-on rock music, Each track sounds like a piece of a film score, all orchestrating the tone of a different moment inside of a motion picture.
If this is just an EP, I can't even imagine how intense their full-length record is going to be when it sees the light of day. I guarantee we'll all be eagerly awaiting it.
