Alexa Wilding - Wolves

Alexa Wilding
Wolves EP
Release Date: July 8, 2016
Producer: Tom Beaujour
Label: Tiny Prism

This was probably the one album I didn't expect to come across this year. I've never truly explored the area of folk music as much I really should have by this point. I will say this though: vocalist/singer/songwriter Alexa Wilding has created something soothing yet impactful. Six stories unfold over the course of her newest EP, entitled Wolves. They tell the stories of her life, giving a look into past moments from Wilding's life prior to her motherhood.

According to the press release I received surrounding the EP release, Wilding encountered a large number of hardships when writing the record, and chose to fight through them in order to bring out the best possible art she could. Not only that, but a majority of the EP was recorded in one day.

The tone of Wolves is one that is rather laid back, yet there's a lot of emotional weight throughout each of the tracks and you can through Wilding's vocal delivery what she has gone through. You can tell that this is her way of waving goodbye to the past so she can make peace, and finally move on. She does a nice job.
