The 1975
I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it
Release Date: February 26, 2016
Label: Interscope Records
The 1975 are by far one of the most interesting bands that have come across my plate in recent years. They're a band that I still haven't figured out how to classify: rock, pop, and indie don't cut it. Maybe it's a mix of all three? I'm still not sure at this point. We might be able to better determine their genre down the road, but I'll tell you one thing for certain: the band's sophomore album I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it (nice album title, guys) is beautiful. You can't deny it.
Now, this is an album (much like the self-titled debut) that requires a bit of time to digest. It clocks in with seventeen tracks total, and we're not talking about the deluxe version of the record. There's a great deal of material, with the median song length clocking in around four minutes. This is a record, however, that deserves your full attention. It's very easy to get lost in it, whether you're listening to the ambient sound waves on the instrumental tracks (the title track, for example), to the twangy, 70s rock guitar licks ("Love Me", "UGH!").
I like it when you sleep is an album that requires several listens in order to at least get a little bit of an understanding of what it's all about, but once you're hooked, you're in. There's really no turning back.
This has been another Shameless Promotion.
