Green Day Announce New Album 'Saviors', Release First New Single "The American Dream Is Killing Me"
Green Day has announced that they will be releasing their new studio album, Saviors, on January 14th, 2024 via Reprise/Warner Records. This is the band’s fourteenth overall studio album, and it follows the release of 2020’s Father Of All… You can click here to pre-order Saviors. In addition to the announcement, the band has unveiled the album’s first single and music video, titled “The American Dream Is Killing Me”. The video was directed by Brendan Walter and Ryan Baxley.
The album was recorded in London and Los Angeles with producer Rob Cavallo, who previously worked with the band on their 1994 album Dookie and 2004 album American Idiot.
Last weekend in Las Vegas, Green Day headlined the second annual When We Were Young Festival alongside Blink-182, where they unveiled two new songs, “The American Dream Is Killing Me” and the forthcoming “Look Ma, No Brains!” to the sold out festival crowd.
In a press release announcing the album and single, vocalist and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong stated the following:
“The American Dream Is Killing Me” was one of the last tracks written and recorded by Green Day for Saviors. “As soon we cut it, we said, `Okay, that’s going first,’”. Armstrong describes the new song as “a look at the way the traditional American Dream doesn’t work for a lot of people -- in fact, it’s hurting a lot of people.”
