Saleka Releases New Song and Music Video for "Seance"
R&B artist Saleka has unveiled a brand new song, “Seance”, along with an accompanying music video. The video for “Seance” was directed by her sister, Ishana Shyamalan, who has also worked with Saleka on other music videos like “Mr. Incredible”, “Graffiti”, and “Clarity”.
In a press release announcing the song, Saleka stated the following about the new track:
“‘Seance’ is a song about feeling disconnected from myself, especially my culture and the things about me that are different, weird and colorful. In it I’m mourning the version of myself I slowly rejected as I grew up and tried to assimilate or be accepted by my peers. The song talks about the loss of that person and trying to get her back.”
Director Ishana Shyamalan goes on to state:
“One of the great joys of making the ‘Seance’ music video was the playful nature of the song. Though it addresses pretty intense emotions, the song doesn’t take itself too seriously. The whimsical artist, Lexy Ho-Tai, created our monster. As she sewed, the character came to life. It became a distinctive voice in the video – representing both the fear and joy of individuality.”
