What Is Cobra Starship Up To?

On Tuesday afternoon, Cobra Starship’s vocalist Gabe Saporta posted a video to a newly created TikTok account. The video is a parody of the recent video that former Blue’s Clues host Steve Burns made, in which he spoke to the show’s old fans about why he left and reflecting on the legacy of the show. In this video, Saporta faces the camera while talking about the legacy of Cobra Starship, as the Hot Mess logo (from the band’s third album of the same name) floats in the background.

When you go to the band’s TikTok (and various other social media platforms), there is a link to a website called fangsup.cobrastarship.com. It features a photo of a gold necklace emblazoned with a cobra (similar to what Saporta would sport on stage during the band’s 2006-2015 run). When you click on the photo, it links to a sign-up sheet for a mailing list.

Now, none of this is indicative of the band getting back together. We’ve seen things like this before with other artists, but it always raises the question. When an artist calls it quits, with very rare exceptions, it never means forever. It means they need some time to get out of the touring/album writing cycle, find some perspective, work on a few personal projects, and reflect on what they’ve just created. But it always begs the question: is something new on the horizon?

Cobra Starship was created by Saporta in 2006, and toured for nearly a decade, releasing four studio albums and touring with everyone from Panic! At The Disco and Fall Out Boy to Justin Bieber. For the majority of its run, the band was comprised of vocalist Gabe Saporta, drummer Nate Novarro, bassist Alex Suarez, guitarist Ryland Blackington, and keyboardist Victoria Asher.

Whether it’s a full-blown reunion, the release of B-side tracks, or even a reissuing of the band’s old music on vinyl, we’re ready to put our Fangs Up. See the video from Saporta below. We’ll report back should any news arise.
