On Friday night, pop-punk/alternative four-piece All Time Low took the stage for what could be considered an amended version of their “Summer Ever After Tour”, which took the country by storm this fall. The word amended is used in this description because the tour itself was initially a co-headlining tour with Dashboard Confessional, but Dashboard had to drop out of the last several shows of the tour due to a family emergency. While it was indeed a nice that a show got out before 10:00 PM and the band went on early since there was only one opener, it’s clear that the band had energy to play for hours on end, well into the night, and fans would have stayed right where they were and sang along to every word.
The tour was opened by gnash, an up-and-coming alternative-pop artist who gave a solid performance. All Time Low, much like Fall Out Boy, have always had a knack for picking great opening acts, and the fans will latch onto this fact. Even though gnash is still well on his way to building up a massive following, those in attendance were singing along at all the right moments as he jumped around the stage, switching from rapping to singing in an enjoyable manner.
After “We Will Rock You” from Queen was played over the PA system, All Time Low took the stage for a set that blended the old with the new, opening with fan favorite tracks from one of their most acclaimed albums, Nothing Personal (“Damned If I Do Ya, Damned If I Don’t”, “Stella”), as well as one of their new summertime singles “Everything Is Fine”, the latter of which included a cascade of confetti over all of those in attendance. Newer tracks from the band’s most recent album, Last Young Renegades were performed throughout the night, all sitting well with the audience (“Dirty Laundry”, “Dark Side Of Your Room”, “Good Times”, “Life of the Party”).
Given that this was the last night of the tour, the band riffed and kept things fun and upbeat, at one point bringing up a fan to sing Blink-182’s “All The Small Things” (the entire song), and even throwing in a “Wonderwall” cover towards the end. Perhaps one of the biggest surprises of the evening came in the form of “Do You Want Me (Dead?)” from Dirty Work, an album that the band rarely play any material from in live shows during the last several years. The most dedicated of fans showed their excitement of the return of material from Dirty Work.
The band returned to the stage for a three song encore that included their newest single, “Birthday”, Nothing Personal’s “Lost In Stereo” and one of their most well-known singles, “Dear Maria, Count Me In”. An evening full of impactful songs, off-color jokes, and clouds of confetti made for yet another memorable All Time Low performance, and one that made all of those attending eager for their return to the Bay Area, whenever that may be.
