If you’re someone that loves Halloween, horror films, and everything spooky, yet you haven’t at least heard of the band Motionless In White, there’s a problem. You’re missing out in a big way if you haven’t. Making their stop at San Francisco’s Regency Ballroom on Sunday evening, Pennsylvania metalcore quintet Motionless In White brought with them an array of blistering metal tracks, a high energy performance, and a cavalcade of production value and set designs that would make Vincent Price and The Cryptkeeper envious.

This is one of those rare tours where every act on the linep is one that deserves a great deal of attention, as all acts on this show have been touring for a number of years. I love shows like this one because you know that no matter who you’re watching, the performances will be immaculate.

The first act up was William Control (former lead vocalist for Aiden), bringing forth an electronic-tinged performance that combined the high energy of a rock show with blistering techno influences. The always impressive Miss May I were up next, bringing forth an onslaught of powerful metalcore music. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Miss May I from very early on in their career, and it’s astounding to see how much they progress as musicians with each record and performance they bring forth.

As the stage goes black and the crowd chants “Amity!” over and over, Australia’s own The Amity Affliction makes their way on stage for an emotionally charged forty minutes of melodic choruses and ridiculously powerful screaming vocals. Their powerful performance paves the way as the perfect transition into Motionless In White’s headlining set.

By the time Motionless In White make their way onto the stage, it’s shrouded in darkness with minimal lighting. Excitement fills the air as the band traverse their way through a packed setlist, filled with songs from their most recent effort, Graveyard Shift. A number of tracks from older albums make their way in, including “America” (Infamous), “Immaculate Misconception” (Creatures), and “Reincarnate” (Reincarnate). Motionless In White’s music is perfectly matched with their stage show, bringing together gothic and horror elements that compliment one another. Giant pumpkins and angel statues adorn the stage that’s dressed to look like the front porch of a haunted house that looms over the audience in the backdrop. This tour is a sight to both see and hear. I honestly wouldn’t just recommend this show to a metal fan: I’d recommend it to anyone that wants to see a truly memorable performance.
