It wasn't too late in the evening when the show began. To be honest, I loved the fact that this show was straight to the point. A big mistake that I see many rising bands take when they do headlining sets, on tours where they are trying to build their name, is play far too long. Raw Fabrics, the (now) solo indie-rock outfit from Los Angeles, took the stage for an eight-song headlining show this past Tuesday in San Francisco, CA at the DNA Lounge.
To my surprise, having visited the DNA Lounge many times before, I discovered that there was a second room: upstairs, cozier than the larger room downstairs. And a perfect setting to get to know the kind of show our headliners would be bringing. The venue was small enough to fully absorb the music (I thought the sound was quite impressive), but not small enough to feel like you were being suffocated like in a punk rock club.
The band took the stage for about 35 minutes, playing an emotionally-fueled set with songs pulling influences from the roots of indie-rock, rock-and-roll, and even punk, with a dash of electronics thrown in.
The most memorable moment of the evening was showcased when vocalist Jack Franco jumped off of the stage and into the crowd, bringing a floor tom with him. Everyone in the crowd (at least those standing up front) gathered around, sitting on the floor, and eventually jumping up at his request when the final song hit its high point and launched straight into the chorus.
Raw Fabrics is a musical endeavor that is poised for success, and their show only further proves this point.
