Well friends, festival season is indeed upon us! More lineups keep getting announced every week, with each lineup being more epic than its predecessor. Hitting the Bay Area this weekend at Shoreline Amphitheater is Insomniac's Beyond Wonderland Festival, returning for another successful year.
I've interviewed a few of the artists that will be going down the rabbit hole this weekend, and I'm really excited to share this interview with Egyptian trance duo Aly & Fila in my next installment of the Beyond Wonderland interview series. This was an email interview with the guys, as they're currently hard at work promoting the upcoming new album and playing shows, but I think we got some nice answers. Check it out below:
There’s so much to talk about! Let’s start with this: you guys are going to be releasing “The Other Shore”, your new album, on October 3, 2014. What was the writing process like for this album in comparison to other albums you’ve worked on?
Same process but we worked with many different artists and vocalists on "The Other Shore".
Not only will you be playing Beyond Wonderland, but it’s just been announced that you’ll be playing Escape All Hallow’s Eve, doing a back-to-back set with John O’Callaghan. What can fans (or more appropriately, headliners) expect in terms of the show you’ll be bringing to each event?
Full-on Uplifting Trance. We are really excited.
In your opinion, what would you say makes you guys stand out the most amongst other EDM and trance acts?
We would like to think we have our own style and have always stuck to this and what we believe in.
You’ve got the Future Sound of Egypt podcast & radio show, currently on its 354th episode. What can listeners expect in upcoming episodes?
We will continue to strive to showcase the best talent in trance around the world.
What does your live setup look like in terms of equipment? Is it anything really fancy, or do you like to keep it simple with just a few turntables and a mixer?
On stage we only use our USB’s in the CDJs.
I ask these next two questions to every artist that I interview. First: what kind of message, if any, would you like fans to walk away with after listening to your music?
To feel happy and inspire.
Second: what does music mean to you?
A gift , there is so much amazing music out there to listen to.
What are the future plans for Aly & Fila? Essentially, if there’s anything else that you’d like to let fans know about, go for it!
We have plenty happening over next 12 months – The Other Shore album, singles, some surprises in 2015 and we are also starting to plan FSOE 400 now.
Aly & Fila's "The Other Shore" will be released on October 3, 2014. Be sure to give them a like at www.facebook.com/alyandfila, and follow them on Twitter @alyandfila
This has been another Shameless Promotion.
