IT'S TIME TO SING THE DOOM SONG! You are reading this correctly: Nickelodeon has announced that there will be an Invader Zim movie hitting the small screen, and they've released a brand new teaser trailer to hype up the announcement.
The made-for-television film will be continuing the story of Zim, an alien from the planet Irk, who goes to Earth on a mission to conquer and enslave the entire human race, disguising himself as a human in the process (although, no one seems to mention his green skin...) Joining him on his journey is GIR, a robot servant (and fan favorite). Zim's plans may be cut short, as Dib, an amateur paranormal investigator and fellow classmate, is close behind him, doing everything in his power to reveal Zim and his plan to the world. The series, created by Jhonen Vasquez, originally premiered on Nickelodeon on March 30, 2001 (the same night as the still-running The Fairly Oddparents), and ran for two seasons before being cancelled. The show is considered a cult classic, and its cancellation was due to harsher, darker subject material that was found to be too intense for some children. I will personally never forget the episode where Zim invites a child over and gives him a machine that pulls his eyes out of his sockets, replacing them with robotic ones. The camera pans away so you only see the silhouette of what is happening, but trust me when I say that it is dark.
Regardless of the darker content, the series has gained a massive following since its cancellation, spawning merchandise in every Hot Topic across the nation, a comic book series, DVDs, figurines, and even its own fan convention, InvaderCON, which took place in March 2011 in Atlanta, GA.
The film will be executive produced by Vasquez, and will feature the return of the original cast members Richard Horvitz (Zim), Rikki Simons (GIR), Andy Berman (Dib), and Melissa Fahn (Gaz).
Also in Nickelodeon news, did we happen to mention that both Hey Arnold AND Rocko's Modern Life are getting their own TV films as well? So far, 2017 is shaping up to be an incredible year for classic Nickelodeon fans!
UPDATE: As of posting this, a SECOND teaser has been released. This one can be viewed below, and it will be sure to make you "laugh".
