Spider-Man: Homecoming
Columbia Pictures/Marvel Studios
Directed by Jon Watts

Release Date: July 7, 2017

Marvel Studios has released the thrilling new trailer for the upcoming Spider Man: Homecoming film, set to hit theaters on July 7, 2017.

This time around, the trailer shows us that Iron Man (aka Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey, Jr.) will be coming into the picture. Based on the scenes that have been introduced to audiences throughout the two and a half minute trailer, it's interesting to see the father-son parallel between the two characters. As we know, Tony Stark lost his father at a young age, essentially growing up without a real father figure in his life. Peter Parker loses his Uncle Ben, the only father figure in his life, after a shooting in New York City. This is the perfect example of how Marvel continues to absolutely kill it in the filmmaking world: they not only make great characters and establish great stories within a universe, but it takes moments like these to expand upon those relationships and show real character development over the course of various story arcs.

The trailer also gives us a first look at a new villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Vulture. The villain (real name Adrian Toomes) is portrayed by Michael Keaton in this adaptation, and I must say that it's so awesome to see Keaton taking on a villainous role. We saw that in Beetlejuice many years ago, but that was a quirkier type of character. Based on the footage seen above during a confrontation between Vulture and The Amazing Spidey, this film is looking to be a promising blockbuster event.
