Vocalist Emily Bell released Kali, a five-song EP filled with what the original press release I received dubbed as "unapologetic female anthems, each with its own message of empowerment". After giving the EP several different listens, I feel that the statement from the original release rings true. Each song on Kali has its own unique style about, while still retaining that feeling of empowered alternative rock. "Can't Talk Back" opens the EP as a track filled with a plethora of major-to-minor harmony shifts, complete with Bell's powerful vocal lines of strength emblazoned across the front of each melody.

While "Crashing Hearts" is a soaring anthem-like track with a chorus that stays with you for days, and the perfect conclusion to this entry in Emily Bell and The Talkback's musical career, I think that "Goldmine" would have been just as great of a closer. "Love is love is love is love" ring through my headphones as instrumentals bursting at the seams with hope build up and explode in a chorus that feels almost like a cinematic score at times. Given the current state of the world right now, "love is love" repeated over and over is probably something that we should all be repeating at this moment in time.
