The best thing about Dance Gavin Dance and this particular album, is that every single time you listen to it, you notice something new. DGD has always been that kind of band. Not only is that aspect still ever-present in the band’s sixth studio album, it’s the best they’ve ever sounded. Period. I don’t know Kris Krummet did when producing the band on this latest record, but their sound is clearer and more cogent than ever. The second I hit play and Tillian Pearson’s vocals pierced through my headphones on “We Own The Night”, I knew there was something that was going to be very different about this record. EVERY member is on their game. While the songwriting is still rather complex, it’s easier to pick up on things after a few listens. But note to the listener: take your time with this record. With bands like DGD, you have to take a few listens in order to fully digest what they’re trying to convey. I’ve listened to it a few times, and I still haven’t picked up on every little detail. But that’s the fun in it. If you’re up to dedicating the time, then just press play.
