2013 is shaping up to be a damn good year for music. The latest release in the world of music comes to us in the form of rock-quintet Sleeping With Sirens’ third full-length album, “Feel”.
SWS followed a bit of what they called the ‘Rise Records formula’ when creating their first album, “With Ears To See And Eyes To Hear”, riddling it with screaming vocals and guttural breakdowns. Their second effort, “Let’s Cheers To This” found the band exploring their sound more. But “Feel” is a different ballgame. The screams are much less frequent, and the songs are more melodic, solidly crafted and more emotional than ever before. On this record, the band has clearly found their sound.
Sleeping With Sirens are clearly not trying to conform to a genre anymore, and it plays well in their favor. The songs on “Feel” showcase their talents, providing listeners with their strongest collective work to date. The title track kicks off the album with solid guitars, pounding drums, and vocalist Kellin Quinn’s astounding vocal range. Fans will swoon over the nu-metal sounding ‘Congratulations’, which features Memphis May Fire’s Matty Mullins on guest vocals, and the incredible ‘I’ll Take You There’, bringing Shayley Bourget (ex-Of Mice & Men) into the vocal mix.
“Feel” closes with the powerful ‘Satellites’. I couldn’t help but feel at peace when listening to this record, particularly during this track. This song actually sparked many memories of past summers in my mind, reminding me that summer 2013 is finally here with an album that could provide the perfect soundtrack to it. Note to the Sleeping With Siren guys: keep doing what you’re doing. It’s working.
