Blow The Roof
A genre of music dubbed “trap” is currently running rampant through today’s EDM scene. Combining the pulsating bass lines of dubstep with the ambiance and technicalities of hip-hop, trap music currently has quite the presence in the EDM community. Many producers are finding some way to include it in their works. UK dubstep producer Joshua Steele, aka Flux Pavilion, seems to be heavily influenced by this recent genre uprising on his newest eight-song album Blow The Roof.
While not necessarily FP’s strongest work to date, he manages to do a decent job of trying to cross genres (check out “Do or Die” for a perfect example when rapper Childish Gambino makes an appearance before the bass drops). Steele even makes a nod to his earlier hit “I Can’t Stop” with “I Still Can’t Stop”, a track that doesn’t stray too far from the original. Regardless of being a bit slow and repetitive at times, the album has it’s strong points (check out “Starlight” and “The Scientist”) I’m more than confident that EDM fans will not have a problem with it. After all, EDM and dance music was made for one reason: to dance and just have a good time.
